Terms of Use

1. Acceptance

The service is operated by the operator of this site ("we", "us"). Questions about these terms: write to us.

By accepting an invitation, signing in, calling the API with a key or otherwise using the service, you agree to these terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

If you use the service on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you are authorised to accept these terms for it.

2. The service

Makor reads photos and PDFs of Israeli identity documents, foreign passports and bank cheques and returns the fields it reads as structured data, with local check-digit validation and an optional check against public registries.

The service is free of charge and access is by invitation only. A limited number of documents runs on our Anthropic account; after that you may add your own Anthropic API key, and Anthropic bills you directly under its own terms. There is no payment relationship between you and us.

The source code is open under the MIT licence. A copy you install and run yourself (self-hosted) is not the service and is not covered by these terms; we have no access to it or to its data.

3. No warranty

The service is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, availability and non-infringement.

Extraction is performed by machine-learning models and is experimental. Models misread characters, skip or confuse fields, and can return values that look plausible but are wrong. A passed check-digit validation proves only that the numbers are consistent with each other — not that the document is genuine or that the values are correct.

Makor is not an identity verification, know-your-customer, anti-money-laundering, fraud detection or document authentication service. Its output must not be the sole basis of any legal, financial, credit, employment or other decision. Always verify the result against the original document.

Registry checks compare values with local copies of public lists (Bank of Israel restricted accounts, NBCTF designations, the Companies Registrar) as of their last download. The copies may be incomplete or out of date, a match may be a false positive, and "not found" does not mean that a person or entity is not listed. The checks are informational and do not replace any screening that law or regulation requires of you.

4. Your responsibilities

You upload only documents you have a lawful right to process: your own, or other people's with their consent or another legal basis under the Privacy Protection Law, 5741-1981. You are responsible for informing those people and for your own obligations towards them.

You do not use the service for anything unlawful — including forgery, identity theft, fraud, unlawful surveillance or profiling — and do not upload material you have no right to share.

You do not attempt to break, overload, probe or circumvent the service's security, limits or access controls, and do not resell the service or offer it to others as your own.

You keep your API keys and your Anthropic key secret and are responsible for everything done with them. Revoke a key you believe has been exposed.

5. Availability and changes

There is no service level. The service may be unavailable, slow, changed, limited or discontinued at any time, with or without notice.

We may refuse, suspend or close any account or invitation, revoke API keys and delete data at our discretion, in particular when these terms are breached.

We may change these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed; using the service after a change means you accept the new version.

6. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any damage arising from the use of the service or the inability to use it — direct, indirect, incidental, consequential or special — including loss of profit, data, business or reputation, and damage caused by wrong, missing or late results or by third-party services.

Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability for all claims together is limited to 100 new shekels.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited, including liability for intent or gross negligence.

7. Indemnity

You will indemnify us for any claim, damage or expense, including reasonable legal fees, arising from documents you uploaded without a lawful right, from unlawful use of the service or from your breach of these terms.

8. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Israel. The competent courts in Tel Aviv-Jaffa have exclusive jurisdiction.

These terms are published in Hebrew and in English; if the two differ, the Hebrew version prevails.

If a provision is held unenforceable, it applies to the extent it is enforceable and the rest of the terms remain in force.
